Prescott CARES Program
INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
What is the purpose of the Prescott Cares Individual Grant Program?
The Prescott Cares Individual Grant Program aims to provide financial relief to Prescott residents facing economic hardship
resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, including the severe housing crisis it has precipitated. This initiative responds to the
complex economic landscape that has emerged in the wake of the pandemic.
Funded by $258,964.44 in special Community Development Block Grants from the US Department of Housing and Urban
Development under the "Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act'' (CARES Act), this program focuses on
preventing, preparing for, and responding to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its far-reaching economic consequences.
The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically reshaped our local economy, leading to job losses, reduced work hours, and
business closures. These impacts have cascaded into a housing crisis, with many residents struggling to afford rising housing costs amidst diminished financial resources. This has created an urgent need for housing assistance and support for other basic needs.
The City of Prescott Community Development Department, in partnership with the Prescott Chamber of Commerce
Foundation, will distribute grants to eligible Prescott residents.
What types of Coronavirus impacted expenses are eligible for the grant?
1). Private Utilities (Gas or Electric)
2). Rent or mortgage payments up to 6 consecutive months
By prioritizing housing-related assistance, the program aims to mitigate one of the most significant consequences of the
pandemic: housing insecurity. This approach recognizes that maintaining stable housing is fundamental to overall well-being and economic recovery.
Eligibility is based on factors such as residency in Prescott, income level, and demonstrated financial hardship due to COVID-
19, including difficulty meeting housing costs.
