GOVERNING PRESCOTT

Prescott Local Government & Elected Officials

Prescott is governed by a seven-member city council, including the mayor. Council members serve four-year terms, while the mayor stands for election every two years. The seven positions are non-partisan and all seven serve “at large,” rather than smaller districts. The city manager runs the day-to-day operations of the city and answers to the council. Regular council meetings are held twice a month, with additional workshops and special meetings as needed. All meetings, except executive sessions, are open to the public. All meetings are broadcast on Facebook, Cable Channel 64, and the City website, as well as archived on the YouTube channel.

The City produces many videos each month, including public meetings, special events and feature programs, which are viewable on Facebook, YouTube, Channel 64 and the City’s website.

Prescott city services include police and fire protection, sewer and garbage collection, water, and library services. The city also owns two municipal golf courses and the regional airport. Prescott is the county seat for Yavapai County and, as a result, many county offices are located in Prescott. The five-member board of supervisors holds regular meetings in Prescott and Cottonwood. When the board meets in Cottonwood, Prescott residents can view the meeting on monitors in the the Prescott meeting room (and vice versa).
